The Palace

Nice hostel, clean. Big kitchen area and dining space. Breakfast times should be updated as online states 6 to 10 but actually starts at 7am. Friendly reception staff and good location.

This place is super cute and feels like home, it's decorated like a grandparents house, rooms for 4 persons ideal to meet people, the terrace is great, the kitchen is also good and clean.

The perfect spot in Nelson. Warm welcome from Dave and the receptionists. The facilities are good and there are nice hot unlimited shower 😉 I wouldn't go anywhere else in Nelson !

I stayed here with my boyfriend and for us we had no problems. It’s quirky and bohemian and for the price you’re paying it’s fine. However, during our stay we witnessed disgusting behaviour from the owner of this place. A solo female traveller had come down in tears to inform staff that she was leaving early because the male owner had come into the female dorm in the middle of the night and dumped rubbish on her bed. After she left I overheard the owner apologising to the other girls in the dorm stating that he had never come into the female dorm before and it was just that that guest had made him “so angry”. But if you scroll down in these reviews there’s another female saying that he came into the dorm before without knocking. We then overheard him justifying his behaviour to his staff by saying that she wasn’t recycling her trash properly and disregarding the signs. Who dumps trash onto someone because they haven’t adhered to the meticulous recycling rules? We would consider ourselves recycling savvy but the owner even pulled my boyfriend up on a certain piece of plastic not being recyclable and that he had put it in the wrong bin. What makes it worse is that the owner is an older man and she was a young solo female traveller. It’s such a pity because this hostel could be something amazing but the owner completely ruins the energy of the place and I would deem it unsafe for women.

The place is beautiful, with a good sense for design and comfort. I met some friendly people there. Three stars because the owner spoke rudely to me once, he got almost angry and raised his voice with me to the point I had to fight back tears— and for something that could have been said so much more nicely… and the doors of the rooms don’t lock. There was even a squatter in a room during my stay (not in my room); price is fairly cheap. Good place to work with ok Wi-Fi and good area to sit/eat without crazy loud people.
