This was honestly the best experience I had in New Zealand.
The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating.
The rooms were clean and comfortable and we were offered extra blankets in case the weather got too cold.
There is a clean kitchen, warm showers, lounge, washer and dryer (costs extra)... I especially enjoyed sitting near the fire outside after the sun set.
The location is a little far from Milford Sound (where I was headed), but still do-able. I actually liked having the chance to see a really small town and to be located right next to a lake -- stunning views!
In general, it was a peaceful and quiet place with other friendly travelers.

Henry is a great host! Very comfortable bunk bed, super facilities. Got to use Kayaks on two occasions which is a massive plus. Proper nice atmosphere here.

This is such an incredible site. Henry is a wonderful host and it is right on the lake, and there are kayaks to use. I had a dip in the lake at sunset which was chilly but beautiful. My room was a bit chilly but Henry had just put a new heater in there and I was easily warm enough with the duvet. Already been twice and would definitely go again if I was in the area.

My stay at Possum Lodge was amazing! Henry was a great host and everything about this place- location, people, views was excellent. If you are doing the Doubtful Sound cruise, you cannot miss this place. There are also some really nice short hikes around. Will definitely be back!

Stayed for 3 nights, lovely place nice vibes and people. Shared bunk room was comfy and shared facilities were pretty good. Only downside was the men's toilets being repainted which often meant a queue for the unisex loo. Top tip: use the unisex shower! Very homely with toilet in there. A bit nicer than the shared shower block. Oh, and they have kayaks to use for free! They go quickly in the morning so if you want to borrow one be quick and get up early.
