Located in the centre of town Wanaka, NZ. Holly’s Backpacker was originally a large house. It is now a small (24 bed), friendly backpackers on a quiet street, 200 metres from the main shopping area of Wanaka. It has fabulous mountain views and is situated on the flat land only two blocks from the lake front.
At Holly's backpackers, it is clean, quiet and friendly. A place to RELAX away from the tour buses. It offers full bedding, heating, wireless and coin internet, logburner, dishwasher, guest phone, large range of videos, laundry, walking and activity information, sunny BBQ area.

Easy walk into town, lots of street parking available. Bunk beds comfy. Room very spacious. Lots of people to share 1 bathroom/shower per floor, but wasn't super busy when we visited. Large kitchen, good size lounge/TV room. Not easy to find the host if he wasn't waiting at the check in desk, but he was friendly and quite helpful.

Cheap with a good kitchen and common room. My biggest complaint were about how cold the rooms would get. The in room heating is not adequate in the middle of winter and the heaters will turn themselves off every hour or so. The warm room in the place was the common room. The showers were also quite small and pressure wasn't great.
March 2020
I stayed 2 nights in a 4bed dorm.
What’s good:
- Bed was comfortable, warm enough for the end of summer when you close the windows and curtains at night.
- Hooks and shelves in the room and plenty of space for your backpacks or luggage
- Enough charging points
- Good hot showers
- plenty of kitchen utensils and cutlery
- Huge common room with some books and an impressive movie collection
- Free parking onsite (4 lots only but on street parking available)
- Host is helpful
- Clean kitchen and toilets
What can be improved:
- Water pressure in shower is weak
- Shower drainage is not great
- No hooks in bathroom to hang your clothes or towel (at least the one upstairs)
- No free wifi . Someone wrote you get a voucher from your second night onwards but I didn’t get any.
- Only 2 tables in dining room that seats 5 each, if there are two groups already taking the tables you’ll have no space to sit and eat.

I really enjoyed staying here. It is an old family home turned into a hostel. The huge benefit is the hostel is a really nice size which means you can meet people easily. The hostel is not overrun by tour busses which is also cool. The lounge area is really homely and super relaxing to chill in. Friendly staff, nice garden, great location-easy walking distance to the shops. I would definitely stay again with pleasure.

Very nice, spacy and cozy hostel. Very good kitchen with clean and proper facilities. Friendly and helpful staff. Close to city centre and supermarket. Big lounge room with TV and good movies. Cheap, certainly for Wanaka standards.
