Globetrotters International Backpackers Hostel

The quality and service at Globetrotters International has really gone down hill. We stayed in December last year and thought it was pretty great! friendly staff, breakfast included, clean facilities etc. We always liked that this hostel was tame, no partying, no drugs, no smoking etc.

When we arrived at Globetrotters International this December, we were met with a thick smell of marijuana and cigarettes. This continued throughout our stay. We were given two single beds instead of a double (that we ordered). While this was eventually rectified, we were given a “master key” that apparently could access all of the rooms (to be honest it could barely open ours!). This made me question how serious they were about their guests’s safety and security.

Every time we left our room we would triple check that it was closed and locked. On two occasions we came back to our room being unlocked (we were able to open it with a gentle push). We had a few other concerns with our stay but this was our main issue.

I wanted to give the property an opportunity to address our concerns before I wrote a review but we were told we must have left the door unlocked ourselves. Of course. Excellent customer service.

The hostel is beautiful, very clean and organized. The receptionist was really nice and helpful, she showed us all the hostel and helped us a lot to choose a tour to the reef.
If you are sleeping in your van, take into account that you wont have access to the fridge of the hostel, but yes to the kitchen.

I had to lovely days in this Hostel. The Staff was friendly and helpful. Once our bathroom wasn't clean it was just a short notice giving to the reception and there was quick somebody coming to clean it. I love the system of having your own fridge locker and kitchen stuff, with that you can make sure that your plates, pans etc are clean, the kitchen is easier to keep clean and nobody is eating your food :) breakfast was enough and if you come at the right time you even get pancakes :) would definitely stay there again.

Amazing hostel to stay at! Everyone is super friendly and welcoming, definitely a really nice family vibe right when you check in. The hostel is SUPER clean, there’s free and good A/C, it has a pool and an area to sunbathe, lots of areas to lounge around, and a great atmosphere where you can either stay in, chill with everyone and relax, and get your sleep in since noise stays down after 10 pm OR you can go out with other guests if you feel like it! Best of both worlds!

Have stayed in 5 different hostels in the past three weeks around Australia, and this hostel is of the poorest standard, the room we stayed in was a private double, the room needed a good clean, there was even little bugs crawling on the bed sheets and along the timber frame of the bed. The bathrooms really needed a proper scrub, and to be cleaned more regularly. Pool was also out of order for the duration of our stay. Girl on reception was quite rude too, on checking out I asked where to put the key and she told me to turn around and look, didn't appreciate the smartness.
Hostel is about 15min walk into the centre of Cairns.
