Hostel Paakal

This is a very well-done brand new building. When the weather went cool and grey in Playa Del Carmen I made a last minute decision to take the 1430 bus to Chetumal with no plans.
Fortunately I met a girl at the bus station who had stayed the night before and told me how to get here. It's not far from the bus station, less than a 10 min walk.
The building is really nice inside.
The beds are...hostel beds. But the hostel as a whole is clean, spacious with free wifi, air conditioning and even a nice-sized jacuzzi bath tub, which my guess is you'd use more as a cooling tub with jets here. It did look inviting but I took advantage of being the only guest this night and took a quick shower and got some real sleep without anyone else around.
This is a town that is usually only stayed in by people, like me, who are too late to cross the border but if you do decide to stay the night here this is definitely THE place to be.
Oh, also I was so tired I didn't even think about the next day but the super friendly staff did. They got up an hour early to make sure I didn't miss out on their great breakfast: coffee, cereal or granola, watermelon, bananas, yogurt, toast.
There is also a nice pool in the back.
She even had a taxi waiting because I didn't think to ask where the dock was.
I hope this place starts getting a lot of business to encourage other hostels to step it up.
I paid 180 pesos, which was totally worth it since I'll save money on food all day because breakfast was actually enough to fill me up.
Also a nice deck on the second floor.

Amazing hostel in a quieter part of the city... diagonal from a OXXO which is nice to get a snack or drink to bring back, super comfortable dorm beds, tons of storage space in the rooms, super clean, great balcony, breakfast included, wifi is really good, and just an amazing hostel! Definitely recommend to anyone staying in the city before anywhere else!

Really beautiful economical private room, with AC and a good price. I don't know if there is a good area to be in Chetumal, but this seemed safe enough. Great breakfast too, and the staff were friendly and very helpful.

So nice to be here after days in the jungle! Helpful staff, aircon, wi-fi, use of kitchen, hammocks, pool, movies, computer, yummy cheap breakfast, comfy beds, small gym, table tennis, even a bathtube!

Big rooms, clean, good prices, friendly (even if not talkative) and extremely helpful staff. Will definitely recommend
